Our used Okanagan truck camper came with a hanging closet in the cabover. Typically, we don’t hang up much clothes when we travel. We might bring a couple of jackets, but everything else is folded and stowed. It was inconvenient trying to access clothes that were hanging, so it was time to improvise.

I took some measurements, went online to Walmart, and found some inexpensive plastic stacking drawers. They didn’t look too bad either.

Closet Doors Removed

Next I took off the sliding mirrored doors, installed two sets of plastic drawers, a couple of wood screws in each to secure them, and a couple of make-shift tiny bungie cords with hooks on the ends to prevent the drawers from sliding out. Then, it was done.

Closet Drawers And Hanging Area

The hardest part was taking the stickers off the Sterilite drawers. They must use some sort of space glue or something!

I left a small amount of room in the middle for hanging coats. Otherwise there is more space than we generally have clothes for. As we all know, you can never have enough storage. I even have room under the coats for a case of traveling wine and some spare shoes.

It took me one hour to complete this modification and cost me $50.  In my opinion, the skill level of this modification is easy.
