Running Boards or Jump Aboard?

Not too long ago, a couple truck camping friends jumped in our truck to go to a restaurant that evening.  They had to jump because we don’t have running boards on our truck.

“Why don’t you have running boards?” our friends asked.

“Weight!  Running boards weigh about 50 pounds, or more,”  Angela answered.

“What?  Are you serious?  You don’t have running boards because you’re trying to save weight!”

Our friends thought this was hysterical.  After all, we have hundreds of pounds of additional payload with our truck and camper combination.  Yes, we are trying to set a matching example with our rig, but another 50 pounds isn’t going to put us over.  So what’s the deal?  Are we taking things too seriously?

Well, yes and no.  We have become completely used to jumping into our truck.  At this point, we don’t even think about it.  Perhaps a time will come when running boards will be necessary but, for now, we’re able to make the leap.

This week’s Question of the Week is, “Do you have running boards on your truck?”  If you do, tell us what kind, and whether you like them or not.  If not, tell us why.

This QOTW is now closed.  Click here to see what kind of running boards TCM readers have on their trucks.
